What are medical journals saying about
digital mammography?
After evaluating the results of a study of almost 50,000 women
across the country who had both film mammograms and digital mammograms,
the New England Journal of Medicine reported that:
- "Film mammography has limited sensitivity
for the detection of breast cancer in women with radiographically dense
breasts."
- "Digital mammography is more accurate in
women under the age of 50 years, women with radiographically dense breasts,
and premenopausal or perimenopausal women"
New England Journal of Medicine 2005 Oct 27;353(17):1773-83.
Epub 2005 Sep 16.
This study proved that digital mammography is better
at detecting cancer than older film mammography. Read

What is being said about digital
mammography in the media?
USA Today declared that "Digital mammograms are better but
scarce." "Digital mammography is superior to film mammography
for certain women...most will have a hard time finding it." We are
indeed one of the first clinics in the country to offer this new technology.
The article goes on to state "digital mammography costs 1½
to four times more than film mammography." Our patients will be pleased
to discover that our charge for digital mammography is quite competitive
with the charges at most surrounding facilities that only offer the older,
inferior film mammograms.
